11歲時，艾倫（格蘭特·古斯汀 Grant Gustin 飾）的母親離奇死亡，而他的父親則被當成了凶手。之後，警探喬（傑西·馬丁 Jesse L. Martin 飾）收留了孤苦伶仃的艾倫，在喬的耳濡目染之下，成年後的艾倫成為了一名CSI鑒證分析員，在此過程中，他一直沒有放棄過對於母親真正死因的調查。
