故事改編自現代作家曲波的作品《林海雪原》，講述了東北民主聯軍一支小分隊，在團參謀長少劍波的率領下，深入林海雪原執行剿匪任務，偵察排長楊子榮曆經打虎上山、黑話舌戰、飛躍天險等冒險，與威虎山座山雕為首的匪兵鬥智鬥勇的故事。
